THE EXPERIENCE

  • Live in a bamboo dorm with up to 30 students

  • Eat 3 meals per day of Ecuadorian cuisine cooked by local staff

  • Daily hands-on workshops and activities to learn about and directly contribute to regenerating ecosystems and communities

  • Topics: environmental design, sustainable architecture and engineering, agrifood systems, regenerative agriculture, ecology and conservation, socio-environmentalism, natural resource management, and more.

Hannah Le

Hannah Le is a third-year Marine Biology undergraduate at UC San Diego and a 2025 CELP Scholar whose work bridges environmental science, creative communication, and community engagement. In the Shurin Lab, she supports freshwater ecology research, while outside the lab, she uses tattooing, art, and storytelling to make sustainability more personal and accessible. Hannah is the founder of Tokens, a creative media club and magazine at UCSD, and focuses on implementing sustainability in creative, adaptable ways that fit into people’s everyday lives. She is passionate about the intersections of culture, environmental justice, and conservation, aiming to create inclusive pathways for people to connect with and protect the planet.

Emilie Hornedo

Emilie Hornedo is a third year Environmental Systems major with a specialization in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution at UC San Diego. She has started a lab position in recent at the Shurin lab focused in freshwater ecology research. She is the Director of Community Engagement for the UCSD branch of the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers that strives for inclusivity and access for marginalized communities. Aside from her focus in stem, she is also the President and Music Director for an on campus a capella group and loves bridging the gaps between art and science. Emilie loves to serve her community and is passionate about the regeneration and exploration of the environment around her.
